PAUL RISLER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
I’ve always had a heart for pastors. Pastors face some of the most unique and demanding challenges, balancing the weight of ministry and the complexity of the relationships that go along with it. I’ve experienced these challenges firsthand, been mentored and mentored others through them, and now want to dedicate this next chapter of my life to helping pastors navigate them. I’ve served as one of the pastors at Central Avenue UMC in Athens, Ohio, for over 25 years. During that time, we’ve done some pretty good ministry—but I’ve also experienced my share of failure, discouragement, and conflict. Through it all, I’ve seen how vital it is for pastors to feel supported, valued, and appreciated.
Beyond my role at Central, I’ve been privileged to contribute to the broader church. I serve on our conference’s Board of Ministry. I mentor pastors as part of our denomination’s candidacy and crucible programs and am currently chair the Order of Elders. I’m the architect of the West Ohio Intern Program and have hosted many interns over the years. I’ve also taught as an adjunct instructor of preaching through United Theological Seminary’s Course of Study. In 2021, I completed my Doctor of Ministry degree in Preaching and Church Leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary.
When not doing the pastor thing, I love hanging out with my wife and daughter, and I’ve recently dusted off my trumpet, playing in a dance band called the Wild Honeybees.
